Sister Sin Interview

1. Could you tell me about the upcoming release of the Sister Sin album Now and Forever recording process?

We recorded the album at Standstraight Studios outside Stockholm Sweden between February & March this year. The whole process went really fast actually. I hammered out the drums in 2-3 with rough guitars, bass and vocals on it and then we just re-tracked everything when we were contempt with the drums. Pretty smooth! We didn’t have all the lyrics finished going in to the studio so when Strandh & Jimmy recorded their stuff I completed all the melodies & rest of the lyrics so it would be all systems go when it was up to Liv to do her part.

2. How is it touring today has anything changed?

I cant say exactly how much it has changed because the music climate has been pretty much the same since we started touring in 2008. Probably has changed a lot for the bands who has been around since the 90´s/early 2000 when there still was money to be earned and the labels & artists didn’t suffer so much from downloading & piracy. It’s really competitive out there, I can tell you that. There´s so many bands out on the road because that’s really your only shot to get noticed. I love, and the rest of the band,  loves touring so for us it ain’t such a bad thing.

3.  What are some of your current endorsements?

I’m endorsed by a Florida based drum brand called Crush Drums & Percussion. Awesome guys & fantastic drums I may add. Other than that we have some clothing endorsements but that’s pretty much it. Jimmy´s endorsed by Randall Amps & Washburn Guitars also.Sister Sin band photo

4. What’s your take on the sex appeal in the music business?

Ha,ha I’m not sure I’m the right guy to answer that question but hey, whatever floats your boat! I guess it varies from bands to bands.  For Liv example, she likes to “show off” but she has artistic skills to back it up you know. You can’t build a career solely on “sex appeal” no matter if its music, art or acting. In my opinion.

5. What does the band think of Social Media Online?

It’s a great way for bands to interact & communicate with fans in an easy way so I´d say it’s an awesome promotion tool!

6. Without merchandising could bands survive?

Metallica probably could but for many bands, especially in our size, it’s essential! More than often we don’t get much guarantee for shows when on tour so we are really dependent on merchandise sales.

7. What would be some of your main influences?

As one of the main songwriters in the band I try to absorb impressions from movies, music, books etc. As far as music goes and this band I think it’s a combination of punk bands like Exploited, Discharge to Motörhead and early stuff from Motley Crue. I generally like bands who can deliver simplicity but yet great melodies and honest attitude & energy.Sister Sin 2012 promo

8. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life?

It depends really if we´re on tour or not. Tour life, that´s pretty much the same every day. At home I usually spend 4-5h a day with band stuff; emails, interviews, updating social medias etc. All spare time goes to hanging with friends, beer and my 2 wicked cool dogs.

We have don tons of shows with Doro in Europe in the past, she did guest vocals on our “rock n roll” single last year and she´s just a great, down to earth person. They asked us if we wanted to join them on their North American tour as special guest and we were stoked to receive the offer. There are a lot of similarities between our bands and I think it´s an awesome package to bring to the U.S.

9. Tell me how your upcoming tour with Doro Pesch came about?

We have don tons of shows with Doro in Europe in the past, she did guest vocals on our “rock n roll” single last year and she’s just a great, down to earth person. They asked us if we wanted to join them on their North American tour as special guest and we were stoked to receive the offer. There are a lot of similarities between our bands and I think it´s an awesome package to bring to the U.S.

10. Any advice for musicians that are starting in the music industry?

Although songs are up most important and to be the best you can be at your instrument, its also very important to realize at an early stage that playing music is just 10% of being a musician these days, unfortunately.  In order to succeed at any level its key with social networking, understanding the industry, contracts & it’s more or less a full time job you most likely won’t get paid for. Its hard work all the way & the glamour in the biographies by the 80´s rock stars are way gone! The sooner you realize this the better but on another note its also the most rewarding, exciting & best job in the world!!
