Wolfbrigade Interview
1. Could you tell me about the recording process of Wolfbrigade’s album Damned?
We first spent a year writing the album in our small basement studio “The Wolf’s Den” before heading over to our real pratcice place to play the songs for real. Since we all write riffs and lyrics everyone contributed while writing and recording pre production to hear how it sounded, then we practiced the songs, made the human element and the small details work to record them again in the basement. Then we went to Fredman Studios in Gothenburg and spent a week recording it. We recorded everything but solos, melodies and vocals live. It was a really great recording process.
2. Where did most of the writing for the album Damned happen on the road or at home?
Well, since we decided to take a whole year off to write the album it all happened at home, so we could meet up in our basement studio to record demos. I don’t know how many riffs have switched places or been scrapped, lyrics have switched songs etc. But it ended up good.
3. What are your current endorsements?
Does cheaper prices at certain bars and at some of our tattoo artists count? Haha. We don’t have any endorsements. More than welcome though.
4. What’s your vision on Social Media as a tool to promote and get your music out to the masses?
I think we are maybe the last generation who still don’t understand that fully, we think in album form and want to hold our actual LP to understand that the album is out. But we understand that it’s important to adapt the new way of consuming music. We have never been that good at promoting ourselves, changing labels all the time, and saying no to big tours have always been a part of our nature, but our music seems to get out there anyway, which is cool, and I guess the internet have helped the last couple of years.
5. How is the current Metal Scene in your area?
Good, it’s more integrated with the punk scene than in many years. Stockholm and Uppsala have good scenes with a lot of death metal and hardcore.
6. Will there be any tours?
Yes. But don’t expect any 2 month long tours, we’re too old for that but there will be touring.
7. What could we find interesting in your Music collection in 2012?
The new High On fire is something I’m looking forward to, new The Baboon Show, Infernöh… and the upcoming Tragedy. Other than that I guess I’ll be listening to the same old crap.
8. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician?
Well, we all have “real” jobs. Me myself is a tattoo apprentice at Carneval Tattoo. The other’s work with disabled people, at kindergarten or putting up security systems. Playing music is a reason to live, but it’s not paying the bills, so that’s what we do on weekends and evenings.
9. Are there any products or projects we will see from you in the future?
The new album “DAMNED” is out soon on Southern Lord and La Famila, and then we will try to play live as much as possible, and there might also be a new split7” that has been in the works for over 10 years now… We will see.
