– What’s new in the world of PFX The Pink Floyd Experience?
A 2019 reformation, a “reboot” of the PFX band, our first proper tour in 3 years.
– The band just recently opened for Foreigner in Halifax, NS. How was that experience for you and the band?
As their “support act”, it was a great opportunity for us to step in and present “The Dark Side of the Moon” in its entirety to wildly receptive audiences all across Canada. We totally enjoyed all 11 dates with the Foreigner band and their incredible crew!
– As well as playing the Halifax date along with Foreigner, the band played a few more shows in Nova Scotia. Tell me was the experience excellent and was the traveling good for the band?
Halifax & Cape Breton, Nova Scotia? Both late in that set of 22 gigs in 28 days during our 4 week tour. Ever since our early tours beginning January of 2004, Canadian audiences have always been a breath of fresh air for us!
– Anywhere’s the band plays there should be a good amount of people showing up since almost everyone has heard of Pink Floyd and see those keywords. Is there times people and communities don’t pack the venues?
A band should never take all the credit on their best nights nor the blame on their worst nights… if you’re speaking about simple attendance numbers. Having played to well over 600,000 Floyd fans over the years…you simply play your heart out each and every night then hope for the best, knowing our support team and great reviews have always been there despite all the changes.
– What would be some of your main musical influences today?
Pink Floyd came on strong in the late 60’s under the leadership of Syd Barrett as Brit pop hit makers, progressive rockers, “Still 1st in Space”! Laughs! Through time The Moody Blues, Genesis, Yes …into the 80’s-90’s I would say Spock’s Beard, Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree.
– Being a Pink Floyd fan yourself, What would you say is the strongest era of Pink Floyd for you as a fan?
While most fans name “the big 4” (Dark Side/Wish You Were Here/Animals/The Wall) albums like Meddle & The Division Bell for me are still extremely compelling and resonate well indeed! “As a listener”? My fave is the “Wish You Were Here”, as a player/guitarist, it’s “Animals”!
– Everyone in the band sounds great and plays great. How long has each member been a part of the band?
Bassist Gus and I have been seriously at it and professionally since 1996. Drummer Bob has been with PFX since 2012. The four others (Kirk, Eric, Jonny & Lauren) are brand new to the project and it has been exciting to see the band transformed almost overnight!
– Where is PFX The Pink Floyd Experience from? Also how many shows do you do in a year?
Our producers, Jeff Parry/Scott Christensen @ Annerin Productions are based in downtown Calgary, Alberta. The PFX band is based entirely out of San Diego, CA. We’ll see what the future holds looking forward. It’s been a journey of 16 years that has changed my life in all the best of ways.
– Where do you see music in general going in 100 years from now?
You’re kidding right?! Laughs … Even “The Eagles” are scratching their heads….
