killset metal band

KillSet Interview | frontman Chris Luca (Chaotic Melodic) | July 2017

KILLSET RETURN WITH KILLER SET, ‘S.T.F.U.’

KillSET is the combination of a professional, well-oiled (finely tuned) metal machine and an explosive, super charged charismatic front man – as evidenced by their upcoming album, ‘S.T.F.U.’ (release date: June 23rd). Having been produced by Eddie Wohl (Fuel, Smile Empty Soul, ill Niño, 36 Crazyfists) and mastered by Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More, ill Niño, Sepultura), this sophomore effort is polished and ready to take over the world. The leadoff single/video, “Killers in the Pit,” serves as the perfect introduction to the unique flavor of the band with crushing riffs, shouted vocals, and heavy-duty rhythms.

“’Killers in the Pit,’ is simply a song for our fans, the Killers!,” explains the band. “It’s for everyone that supports our music. It’s for everyone that takes the time out of their lives to come down to our shows and tear up the place with us! It’s about finding a positive and fun way to get rid of that extra energy and stress that so many people feel in their lives. We decided to drop this single first because music needs some flavor right now and we’re bringing that not only with this track, but the whole ‘S.T.F.U.’ album! As it says in the song…let’s show the world!!!”

– What’s new in the world of KillSET?
We just released our sophomore album, S.T.F.U. on July 7th, and are overwhelmed and humbled by the support we’ve been getting so far!killset metal band

– How was it recording and writing S.T.F.U.?
It was cool to go back into the studio with good friend and amazing producer Eddie Wohl! He is the best at what he does and really understood and supported our conscious effort to create a very diverse album and show the range and capabilities of the band.

– How long did it take to develop the music video “Killers In The Pit” from start to finish?
Not that long. We we sat down as a band, brainstormed and developed the idea. If you have a specific and detailed plan going into a video shoot, and the right people are involved, it’s amazing what can be accomplished these days with the technology available.

– Also very good work on the promo video for “Jump”. Is music videos the way to push bands to the next level?
Thank you! We had way too much fun making that video! I think videos are definitely an important part of helping progress bands. I personally enjoy watching a video while jamming out to a song, especially during the first listen. The song can have more of an impact when you connect the visual with the audio.

– Do you have any tours coming up in the near future?
Working on a tour right now to support the release of the new album. We feel it’s very important to get on the road, connect with people, and show them what we got!

– Could you describe some of your earliest influences in life and in music?
I would say that my parents were obviously major influences in my life at an early age. As far as in music, I grew listening to rap so my early influences were artists like Tupac and Biggie. Once I fell in love with Rock and Metal, I was heavily influenced by bands like Rage Against The Machine, Sevendust, and System of a Down.

– Is the band fans of Spotify and similar streaming services? What are your thoughts on this?
The whole industry has changed. There is no value in the actual music anymore. Now it’s about touring and selling merch to make any real money. The positive of the streaming sites is that they can help new people discover your music, but they definitely have a negative effect on actual sales of that music.

– Where do you see music in general going in 10 years from now?
That’s a tough one. It seems musical styles and trends are cyclical. A genre becomes very popular, then becomes over saturated, fades away, and then eventually comes back a little modified, it’s renamed and then becomes popular again. We shall see!
