Jonny Hetherington Interview
– What’s new in the land of Art Of Dying? We are in the middle of a 40 date headlining tour across America in support of our new record #Nevermore.
– How was it recording your “NEVERMORE” EP? We based the recordings around the songs and the writing of those songs, which was a new approach for us. A lot of the parts ended up being recorded off the cuff in Nashville with Mark Holman and Skidd or back in our home studios in Canada.
– Making lyric videos versus actual promo videos? What’s your thoughts on this? Does it do the same thing? I look at everything we do as an opportunity to create more art. That’s exciting to me for both music vids and lyric vids.
– Do you consider album artwork as important now that music is mostly downloaded?
Absolutely, although it’s natural to focus more on the cover art these days as that’s how most people will experience it.
– Vinyl is making a comeback. Do you have a personal preference? Is the band producing on vinyl? We would love to put out all of our records on vinyl. With social media we can simply ask our fans and see if there is a demand for it.
– How is the current tour and life on the road?
The tour is amazing. It’s really our first time headlining clubs across he country. It’s that magical time in the band’s career that we will always remember. Life on the road is really something that’s hard to put into words, it’s like a stag party/camping trip but every single night.
– How many shows do you play per year on average now, and how crazy does the schedule get? When we’re out its 6 days a week. We just did 11 shows in 12 days, so you can imagine it’s pretty intense. We’re also running out on line Merch store (www.artofdyingmusic.com) from the road which is keeping us busy. We love it.
– Do you use mostly Facebook now as a primary website source for the band? Www.artofdyingmusic.com is our home base for merch and touring. We divide our attention across all of the socials including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat.
– Is the band fans of Spotify and similar streaming services? What are your thoughts on this? Absolutely. Spotify is generally how I listen to music at home, we also love SXM Octane. Other bands on the road have been giving us CDs, which I’ll admit is still pretty awesome to throw in the stereo and crank up.
– What goals as a musician have you yet to achieve? For us it’s about reaching more people. We get such an amazing response from fans and DieHards that get deeply into our music and we’d like to spread that to as many people as possible. Getting back to the UK and touring new places in Europe, South America and around the globe is something we’re hungry for.
