Chris Letchford Interview

1. How was it recording the latest album for Scale The Summit The Migration?
Chris Letchford: Great, Jamie King finally nailed the production we always wanted. We had our moments where things got tense, especially during harder parts during tracking, but its always best to look ahead as the final product comes out best that way. We all pushed each other to really perfect all the parts.

2. Where did most of the influences come from for writing and making The Migration?
Chris Letchford: I try and not listen to a lot of music while writing, so what comes out is more “me” than my influences. So far its worked great, keeps my head clear. Best inspiration for writing for me is nice weather outside. I always get a lot accomplished then. Also, when its super late at night.

3. What equipment is the band currently endorsing, etc.?
Chris Letchford: Jackson, Strandberg Guitarworks (who have made my signature guitar), Fractal Audio for Axe Fx II’s, Ernie Ball Products, Intune Guitar Picks, EMG Pickups, GK Bass Heads, Warwick Basses, Tama Drums, Sabian Cymbals, and Vic Firth sticks.

4. Where will Scale The Summit be touring this summer?
Chris Letchford: We are currently on tour now, which ends in a couple of weeks. Other than that, we have a festival in NJ in August called “YES Fest” which the band YES are headlining, going to be amazing! We’ll be back out in the fall as well, but nothing set in stone just yet.

5. Would you say that Facebook is a great way to attract attention towards bringing in new crowds to concerts?
Chris Letchford: Some, its great for promoting, but now that they are charging bands to have to pay for their posts to reach all of their fans, its kind of limited unless you are willing to spend the cash.

6. What’s your vision on the Internet as a way to releasing Music Online now days?
Chris Letchford: Well its not really new, music has been released on the internet since we started our band. I personally loved having a physical copy, but digital works as well. I want people to get our music anyway that they can.

7. What could we find interesting in your music collection at home?

Chris Letchford: I don’t really listen to a lot of metal. I like my Reign Of Kindo and Passion Pit records a lot!

8. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician?
Chris Letchford: Currently on this tour its been. Wake up, drive to the next venue/city, load in, head to the gym, come back eat, warm up, play the set, and then load out and head to wherever we’re staying for the night and then do all again the next day! I like a routine; it helps pass the time of being away from home so long!

9. Where do you see the future of music going in 100 years?
Chris Letchford: No need to guess since I won’t be around then, sad to say I would love to see what happens in general in 100 years.

10. Any words for future musicians?
Chris Letchford: Work extra hard, there is no “luck” in the industry if you want a “career” in the industry. Have to work for it!
