Byron Davis, Lead Singer for Metalcore band God Forbid.
God Forbid Interview with Byron Davis
1. What is on the agenda for God Forbid this year?
As of recent, all of our focus has been on the benefit show for Hurricane Sandy, but we are looking forward to possibly doing some European and summer festivals and some more local shows.
2. What does it mean to you and God Forbid to play Revive the Shore Part III the Hurricane Sandy Benefit Concert?
I think it shows that we show pride in where we come from, our commitment to the state we love so much, to let people know that joy can be achieved even through adversity. Being I grew up here anything I could do to show that the Jersey strong pride is still here and we the people of New Jersey won’t ever let things go. I too suffered from the storm. I am looking forward to seeing what is next for our shore. Anything we can do to help, we will be doing.
3. Choosing the songs to add to the set for the concert will be done how?
It will be spoken about amongst the band and we will cater it towards the Jersey we know and admire. The inner spirit.
4. What were some of the influences used in writing the songs on “Equilibrium” album?
Honesty, loyalty, determination, drive and respect due diligence this is what influences my writing process.
5. Any tour dates lined up for God Forbid in 2013?
Nothing as of yet, we have the feelers out but waiting to see what comes together, touring has changed greatly over the years so we will see what comes of it.
6. Would you say that Social Media will do its part in promoting concerts?
I think it will do what it will do, the rest is up to those who would like to come out and support the cause, but it definitely allows for band information to be spread quicker and further than ever before.
7. What do you think of promo videos and its importance now?
It’s by far the best form of getting people’s attention. It’s a cheaper form of advertising considering most people do not read as much but are more visually stimulated. Videos are a great way to let the fans know what you’re up to.
8. What could we find interesting in your music collection at home?
Well my music collection is extensive I have music from every genre and era of time, I’ve always believed good music is good music no matter what stamp the media puts on it. Music has the power to heal on several levels and you should be willing to give it all a chance, which is one of the most important lessons I’ve ever learned. Always be sure you’re listening with an open mind.
9. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician?
Well the daily activity of a musician is based on their schedule; some are able to write and tour a lot while others work regular jobs and support themselves, but throughout that day i think you try to practice your craft as much as you can while taking care of business.
10. Any words for future musicians?
I would say have a backup plan in case it takes you longer to achieve your results, with the inflammation of the internet there are so many bands out there to compete with so you must find a way to make your band sound better than the next, but make sure you will be able to support yourself while you shoot for the stars.
