Rob Moschetti, Bassist for Thrash Metal band Generation Kill, Pro-Pain, M.O.D.
Generation Kill Interview
1. How was it writing process for the new Generation Kill album?
It’s going great and the songs are just falling into place perfectly. We are not trying to force anything and the freedom to write what we feel gives us a pressure free environment to create.
2. Would you say writing concept albums is more complicated than just any songs thrown into an album as you did with Red, white and Blood album?
Our concept was not realized until the songs were put in a certain order. lt was unintentional how our album told a story. An accidental concept.
3. Is there any new influences for the next album?
I think we kept the door wide open with the first album, so that we can cover many different styles on our future records without disappointing or surprising anyone who bought the first cd. It is turning out to be diverse, yet it is not a repeat of the first cd.
4. What type of Bass gear did you use on the Generation Kill album Red, white and Blood?
l am exclusively using Halo Basses. They are a new company, but they have great stuff. As far as amps on the cd and live, l use SWR.
5. What do you think of promo videos nowadays with everything going on YouTube?
You tube is a great way to promote your band, but nothing compares to a live show.
6. Any Generation Kill tours soon?
We just got finished doing shows for Red White And Blood and now we are focused on recording the new one. But all of the shows were killer..
7. Would you say the overall scene in Metal is getting stronger since the days of Pro-Pain and M.O.D.?
It’s much different now. M.O.D. and Pro-Pain didn’t have the worldwide web to push them. We toured relentlessly and sold cd’s without internet or satellite radio.
8. What were your earliest influences?
Black Sabbath was a major influence, and the first four Metallica records changed my life.
9. What could we find interesting in your music collection at home?
l grew up in the 70’s and 80’s, and music was all over the road at that time. Nothing surprising, just guitar rock. No disco..
10. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician on tour?
Waiting to play the show. The downtime sucks. That’s when you O.D. or get arrested because the bordum is horrible..
11. Where do you see Metal in 100 years from now?
We all know what bands stand the test of time. lt’s the bands who write timeless music. Things will change and so will trends, but trends die and so do bands who follow them.
Life without music would be – to painful to continue living.
