Thor Interview

– What’s new in the life of the awesome Jon Mikl Thor?

With the release of I am Thor on Netflix around the world, there has been a lot of offers for all kinds of projects. So I am keeping busy with going through the proposed projects. There are offers for movie roles, tours, electronic and card games, new albums and much much more. I’ll be busy for a while.

– Since the documentary I Am Thor was released have you seen a big difference in sales with the back catalogue of your music and attendances at concerts?

Yes. Big time. All our sales are up on Unchained, Only the Strong, I am Thor Soundtrack and especially “Metal Avenger”. All released through Cleopatra Records.

– When writing a song, is there such a thing as investing too much time?

No. I’m still working on finishing songs I wrote when I was 16 years old. The thing is to be productive and deliver albums on time for the label. I can write a song in few minutes or a few months. but I can still draw from my music library.  There is no timeline if you write a lot of material which I do. I have a plethora of tunes.

What’s the shortest time you ever took to write one?

I wrote “Into The Beyond” and “We are Body Rock” in the studio on the spot.

What was your strangest inspiration?

A bird.

– Vinyl is making a comeback. Do you have a personal preference?

Vinyl is a great collectors album to compliment the cd package. I still like CD’s although I know that the major preference of the population wants digital downloads.

– You have appeared on a great number of albums throughout the years. What are some of your proudest accomplishments?

I’m proud of them all. Only the Strong, Unchained, Keep the Dogs Away to name a few. And of course “Metal Avenger”.thor unchained

– How important are music videos in the industry today? How do they compare to videos from 20 years ago?

Yes they are still important. But done in different concepts. YouTube is the happening platform for music videos. But also musicians tutorial videos and other wild enigmatic artistic videos are popular.
I like it now that artist doesn’t need a panel of “know it alls” at Much Music or MTV to have your video played. If you have an idea, produce it and just up load to YouTube or Vimeo.

– What goals as a musician have you yet to achieve?

I’m trying to develop some new concepts and ideas. I had visions of having a top ten mainstream hit on the radio. But that doesn’t matter to me anymore. The new digital universe has opened it all up.  But I would like to become more mainstream. That’s a goal that is opening up with the “I am Thor” Netflix release and the new albums on Cleopatra Records.

– Are you a fan of Spotify and similar streaming services?

Yes.

– What are your thoughts on this?

You have to keep up with technology. This is the world we are in. It gives more opportunity for an artist to reach out to the population than the old conventional way and dealing with all the bureaucrats of the music industry. I love it.

– Where do you see the Music industry in 100 years from now?

Technology is at its fastest pace. Either the industry will implode or expand to new horizons. How about the Martian top 10?
