Mothers Ruin Interview

1. Any news on what Mothers Ruin will be doing this summer?

Yes, rehearsing ready for the upcoming gigs and getting ready to record the album in October. We’ll also be writing some new tunes.

2. Where will you be touring this summer?

We have a number of gigs lined up.

11th August, Bulldog Bash – 1st Sept, Hairy Dog Derby – 7th October , Biker Festival Derby – 10th November, Ivory Blacks Glasgow – 7th December, Snooty Fox Wakefield

3. How do you manage your time inside of a band?

Poorly usually. It’s just a case of make sure we turn up for rehearsals and gigs on time and then make the most of our time together. Joe (bass) lives in Manchester and the rest of us are based in Milton Keynes so we have to be really disciplined and work hard when we are together.

4. What are your current endorsements?

Stagg have kindly donated a kit but if there is anyone out there who wants to chip in we are open to all offers.

5. Without Social Media could bands today manage to survive?

Social Media is great for getting the music to a lot of people very quickly and without it I don’t think some bands would survive.

6. What’s your vision of the internet for musicians in the future?

This is the downside to the music business at the moment. Great for spreading and sharing music on a world wide scale but unfortunately it has taken real money away from the bands so it’s making it hard for them to survive. Not sure how we fix this in the future. Maybe I’m too old to worry about it LOL. Something needs to be done for young bands otherwise we might not have anyone playing live in small venues up and down the country cos they can’t afford it. !!

7.  What could we find interesting in your Music collection today?

God knows. I like all sorts but will always go back to my classic AC/DC, Queen, Def Leppard albums.

8. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician?

Pretty much the same as everyone else. I still have to work a real job as well as the band. So, up at 6:30 tea toast, go to work, come home, learn new parts to songs, rehearse, bed ………………… not very glamorous just yet. Bloody internet !!!!!

9. Where do you see Rock Music in 100 years from now?

Now you’re getting into Bill and Ted territory.. Basically I think the same rules will apply….. A great riff, a solid beat and a ‘most excellent’ tune that you can actually sing a long to. Party on Dudes !!!

10. Any words for musicians starting out?

Just one : “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious“. Enjoy what you do, keep at it and play every gig as if it were your last. If you enjoy it the crowd will !!!!
