– What’s new in the world of The Lonely Ones? Spending time working on projects?
We’re always busy. COVID has really halted the music industry (amongst most industries) so all we’ve been able to do is create and plan. Touring is my favorite thing so I’m excited to move on to that phase.
– Let’s talk about a day in the life of a musician in the studio. How do you spend your time in the studio?
I’m a total weirdos who refuses to miss a second of the creative process. Joe of Sonic Lounge Studios is a great friend so we all had a very casual back and forth. We’re very serious about what happens in there, though. We all do a good job of watching each other and keeping our weapons as sharp as possible while still having a good time.
– How important is artwork for singles or albums?
It’s the first thing some people see. If you’re proud of the music you created then it is always worth it to flip a few bucks to your buddy who’s savvy with photoshop or a pen to avoid putting out a great piece of art with Bleeding Cowboy font on the cover.
– When writing a song, is there such a thing as investing too much time? What’s the shortest time you ever took to write one? What was your strangest inspiration?
There is but only if you’re misusing your energy. The more efficient you become as a writer the more time you can efficiently spend fleshing out the finer details of a tune without working backwards.
Before we knew Jake our old band wrote a song in about 90 minutes from front to back. It was a surreal experience. There were parts that we came up with on the fly while jamming that made it onto the final version of the song.
– Do you follow a formula when you write?
No. Formulas get you too comfortable and comfort doesn’t gel with what I like to make.
– How important is merchandising? Could artists survive without?
Anyone who has toured knows how important merch is. Often times it can be the only thing standing between a new small band and financial ruin. IF you like a band – BUY A SHIRT.
– What would be some of your main musical influences today?
The Rolling Stones. Velvet Revolver. Aerosmith. Pretty much basic shag haircut Rock n Roll bands.
– What would we be surprised to find in your music collection at home?
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West. I have the deluxe vinyl edition and it is easily in my top 5 favorite albums
– How important is it for a musician in this generation to spend time on social media?
It’s very important. I hate social media but it’s far an away the best way for people to discover new music. It’s very rare i find a new band NOT on social media.
– With the music industry shutting down presently. How are you dealing with these issues?
We’re at the very early stages of the band so there’s plenty of work to do towards building the infrastructure of the band. I’ve been pretty busy working towards that and building up hype as best as I can.
– Thank you for taking the time in doing this interview. Wish you all the best.
