The Lazys Interview with guitarist Matt Morris talks about life on the road and Canadian tour. Interview May 6, 2015.
The Lazys Interview
– What’s new in the world of The Lazys?
We are currently on tour in your beautiful country and have been for over a month now. We are loving every single second. We have also just finished recording a new single, co-written and produced with Ian D’sa from Billy Talent. Can’t wait to release it!
– How is the current Canadian tour and life on the road?
It’s amazing. We have been having so much fun. Meeting new friends, seeing new places, playing to some crazy crowds! So much fun!
– How many shows do you play per year on average, and how crazy does the schedule get?
I’ve lost track of it. I wouldn’t be able to say. Heaps of shows! We like to keep busy. No rest for the wicked.
– Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician on tour?
Driving, driving, driving and more driving. Beers, lots of junk food and 1 hour of absolute craziness on stage each night.
– As the band continues to play shows, I am sure you’ve met interesting fans and have good stories to tell. What’s the most interesting thing that’s happened on tour?
We’ve had alot of crazy experiences on this tour so far. Our RV took a heavy knock recently. A truck kicked a massive stone through our window.
– Does the band write music on the road at all?
Not really. There’s bits and pieces here and there but we’ve been so busy we haven’t really had a chance.
– How important are music videos in the industry today? How do they compare to videos from 20 years ago?
I think they are still important. Especially with everything online and the power of social media. These days a video has the potential to go viral.
– Without social media could bands today manage to survive?
Totally, I think musicians would survive. For sure. At the end of the day music will always be around. Social media or no social media. Obviously it would just be harder to promote yourself.
– What would we be surprised to find in your music collection at home?
Ryan Adams – Ashes and Fire.
– How different is touring North America versus Australia?
It’s different in some ways and the same in others. It’s a massive country like Australia. Lots of hours driving. However it’s awesome because there’s such a larger population here in each town and such a big, supportive rock scene in Canada.
