– What’s new in the world of Terrifier?

We got a lot exciting things happening at the moment. We’re about to release our second full length album ‘Weapons of Thrash Destruction’ as well as record a music video. We’re opening for one of my favourite bands Entombed and have some new material we’re working at too.

– How was it recording the Weapons of Thrash Destruction album?

Extremely fun! We have a really good time when we record. We try to keep up with the humour and get a good vibe going. We recorded WTD in our guitarists basement, which we call the terrordome cause we all lived there together at one point. Our friend Dan Yakimow from the local Vancouver band Nylithia recorded, mixed and mastered this one. The man has such a ear for metal and he’s so easy going to work with.

– Finding the perfect artwork for a album can’t be that easy? What approaches do you use?

Yes it’s very difficult finding the right artist and getting what you want done through another person can be a lot of trial and error. I find most artists that do work for bands don’t promote them selves very well either so you really have to dig to find them. This album was done my Andrei Bouzikov and he’s very awesome to work with. The picture is roughly based off of our song Nuclear Demolisher which is about a weapon from a distant void in space that comes to destroy earth. We approached it with an idea and went back and forth with the artist until eventually we felt it was really awesome.

– How do you build a song up from nothing to become something?

Basically we start with a cool riff and add to it until we get enough riffs that we can start putting them in order. After we have a decent section together I’ll usually start writing lyrics and then we just go back and forth with ideas until we have a song.

– How many shows do you play per year on average, and how crazy does the schedule get?

Probably 15 or more. It depends on what we’re doing at that time. It can get pretty crazy at times so it’s important to focus on certain aspects like promoting, and writing as well the live shows.

– How important is merchandising? Could artists survive without?

Absolutely not! merchandise is where you make all your money on the road and gives fans a chance to represent the bands they like.

– Is the band fans of Spotify and similar streaming services? What are your thoughts on this?

We’re not on Spotify but it’s a great way to find bands as well as promote your music too. The internet is a awesome tool these days.

– What would we be surprised to find in your music collection at home?

Deep Purple
The Doors
Rainbow
Willie Dixon

– Where do you see thrash music in general going in 10 years from now?

I see more and more thrash bands popping up these days so I think the thrash scene will grow strong again. It’s also where your from cause our local scene has a really big death metal following.
