Soil Interview

– How is the summer going along for Soil?
Great so far. We wrapped up a European tour with Coal Chamber in June and just finished a USA tour with Powerman 5000 in July.

– When writing a song, is there such a thing as investing too much time?
Usually the best songs come along right away. If you have to think too much about it, it usually isn’t worth the effort.

– What is the strangest inspiration you’ve ever had for a song?
Back in my death metal days in OPPRESSOR I sang and wrote all the lyrics. For this one song called “seasons” I wrote the words on Halloween as I was looking at this tree with only 1 leaf left on it.

– Do you consider album artwork as important now that music is mostly downloaded?
Absolutely. It is the identity of that piece of work.

– How many shows did the band do this summer and where has the tours taken you?
a lot…LOL…. we hit all of the UK, belgium, Luxembourgh, Amsterdam, and Germany and then all over the east coast, midwest, and south of the USA.

– Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician on tour?
Usually waking up and having to pee, Then getting yourself in order, getting to the venue, looking for food, doing soundcheck, looking for dinner, making phone calls, doing daily things, I work at a label (Pavement) so my day consists of working all day and then having to get into “band guy mode” and play a show at night.

– What would be some of your main musicial influences today?
Motley Crue is my fav band. I also love Aerosmith, GNR, Early Megadeth and Metallica, Whitesnake, 80’s hair metal, Napalm Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary. As for bass players: john patitucci, Nikki Sixx, Tom Hamilton, Duff Mckagan, Ryan from Mudvayne.

– What would we be surprised to find in your music collection at home?
Madonna and katy Perry

– How important are music videos in the industry today? How do they compare to videos 20 years ago?
I still think they are viable. People are more visual now than ever before.

– What goals as a musician have you yet to achieve?
I still haven’t made a million dollars playing music yet….well for myself anyways….LOL….and I still have not opened for motley crue….I guess I’ll never get to do that with this being their last tour…..would also like to tour obscure places like Africa, China, Indonesia, Philippines, etc.
