From Ashes To New Interview with singer Chris Musser. Genre: Rap-Rock/Alternative Metal.

– What’s new in the world of From Ashes to New?

Well we released our new EP ‘Downfall’ that has four songs hand picked from our full length album ‘Day One’ which still doesn’t have a release date but hopefully its not to far away. We have been spending a lot of time making our snapchat presence known, making walmart trips and just capturing behind the scenes moments. Also this fall we will be on tour with Five finger death punch, Papa roach and In this moment.

– How is the current tour and life on the road?
We are currently on tour with POD and Islander, they are all a bunch of great dudes and i think that all our bands kind of have a similar element to them. The crowds have been great, we have been meeting a lot of new people that have never heard us before and we have seen them online already spreading the word about FATN, and we can’t thank them enough for that.

On the other end, this tour has been brutal! lol Islander got sick then we got sick, Tim our drummer got cut recently so he is playing with stitches in his hand, Brandon our guitarist broke his toe, Nick our merch guy, his foot is all black and blue so we think he broke his foot, we had two flat tires, many equipment problems, and we can’t wait for whats coming next. haha But despite all that we are having a great time sweating it out on stage night after night and that easy to do when you are surrounded by such good hearted people.

– New lyric video for Downfall has a very good concept featuring people holding the words. Creating original type videos sometimes must get hard?

Yes, it can be frustrating because at this point just about everything has been done before but lucky we have a good support team behind us and a lot of people to bounce ideas off of.

– When writing a song, is there such a thing as investing too much time?

Some people in the band would probably say no, but for me i say yes sometimes it definitely can. I think that there is a point in the process where you keep changing things and it just gets to convoluted and strays to far from what you originally planned on it being. But on the other hand, sometimes it is called for and can help the song. So its just a matter of when and when not to invest.

– Do you consider album artwork as important now that music is mostly downloaded?

Me personally, I have always found that the artwork to be equally if not more important. although being a Digital Artist myself i may be a little biased. I think album art can be a huge selling point for the album and i have checked out and bought CDs just because the art work caught my eye.

– Vinyl is making a comeback. Do you have a personal preference? Is your band producing on vinyl?

No there hasn’t been any plans to produce on vinyl but I’m not against it. I don’t have a means of playing it but i think it would be pretty cool to have a vinyl record hanging on my wall at home.

– As the band continues to play shows, I am sure you’ve met interesting fans and have good stories to tell. What’s the most interesting thing that’s happened on tour?

Well this tour has been interesting and very rough on us! With everyone getting sick, equipment problems, all the blown tiers…. But the weirdest thing was probably when 2 of our more long-term fans that happen to be nurses, convinced me that it was safe and that i could trust them when I got sick to help. So they met us at the bands room in days inn and they administered an iv and hooked me up with a saline bag. 30 mins later i felt so much better and a day later I’m all better.

– Could you describe some of your earliest influences in life and in music?

My grandfather used to sing in bands and that influenced me and I’m glad that i am able to follow in his foot steps. I was influenced by bands like Alice in Chains, Alexisonfire, Glassjaw, 36 Crazy Fists, and Sevendust just to name a few.

– Without social media could bands today manage to survive?

I would really like to say yes but if you are a band with out social media, then i feel that you will be lost and fall way behind the rest. If there was no social media at all then i feel that the music scene wouldn’t be so over satiated with bands and then those bands would stick around longer and be more relevant for long amounts s of time.

– Where do you see music in general going in 100 years from now?

I think everything comes back around again full circle, so what ever it is i think it will be something that has already been done just re-imagined and taken to the next level.
