Neal Schon’s Vortex Review
Neal Schon’s Vortex provided an interesting opening act at Alderney Landing on Friday July 31st. Journey’s guitarist was joined by Journey drummer Omar Hakim, Jerry Brooks and Rachel Z. An instrumental, jazzy, rockish mix made the wait for Journey easily bearable. Virtuoso Schon offered very tasteful guitar melodies and outstanding solos, making some audience members wanting to become guitarists themselves.
Hakim along with Brooks (bass) held a very tight rhythm section and appeared to enjoy the show as much as the audience. Rachel Z played the keyboards elegantly. A guest appearance by Jonathan Cain on keyboards was greatly appreciated.
The weather was perfect for this outdoor show, the first for Vortex in Nova Scotia.
