Journey Dartmouth Concert Review
The Blue Moon wasn’t the only dazzling sight at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth on Friday, July 31st. Long time and new Journey fans were definitely not disappointed despite the absence of the original singer, Steve Perry and drummer, Deen Castronovo. Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards) and Ross Valory (bass) have maintained the sound and feel of Journey with singer Arnel Pineda and drummer Omar Hakim. If you chose to skip the concert because part of the original line-up wasn’t there, you missed out on a spectacular show. Journey was on stage.
The audience was mesmerized as soon as the first notes rang out. The video screens provided an awesome light show, visuals and amazing close-up views of each band member à tour de rôle. This was certainly a sing-along crowd gathered under a perfect summer night sky. Open Arms never sounded so good. All the best hits were sung and though our teen years are long gone, the lyrics Faithfully remained in our hearts and minds.
A pleasant surprise was Schon’s guitar rendition of Oh Canada! A masterpiece. I would urge all high schools in the country to play his version on Monday mornings starting September. The students would be thrilled instead of bored… The show seemed to end too soon. Each band member gave a fantastic performance and brought it together. Thank you guys for an amazing night and we hope to see you again – regardless of the moon.
