Trish Doan is the bassist for Canadian metal band Kittie.

1. What’s new in the life of Trish Doan and Kittie?
Oh I’ve just been working! And in the world of Kittie we’ve been working on launching a project we think everyone will love!

2. How could you describe your bass gear in the studio and live in concert?
Well, the last time I was in the studio with Kittie was 2007 and I used a Tobias Toby Pro 5 to record Funeral For Yesterday. I love that bass, it’s very dirty and gritty and metal sounding and it’s an active bass. I recently was endorsed by Warwick and now I use a Corvette $$ Bass (I discovered it through Ivy) and I love it! The body is very sexy and the sound is very thick.

3. Any tours or future Kittie record coming soon?
No tours or record in the books at the moment, but we’re working on something that will satisfy Kittie fans!

4. In regards to social media how many hours a week do you spend online?
Hmm, I’m pretty much always connected to social media, it’s the curse of the cell phone! And in my job I’m almost always on a computer, if I’m not out shooting video/photo. But yeah… I would say that because I am glued to my iPhone I am connected at all times.

5. What would be some of the craziest stuff you’ve seen on tour?
Oh! There are some stories… I’m not sure what would really qualify as “crazy” but we had this story we like to recall once in a while. There was this girl we refer to as “Piss Crystals” (I think because we thought her name was Crystal?) She had a bit too much to drink at a show and she peed on our Manager’s car outside the venue. To make a long story short, she followed us to our hotel, and then her designated driver picked her up and she followed us down the highway and drove up beside our tour bus shaking a voodoo doll at us.

6. How is the music scene in your area nowadays with the economy?
The music scene in our city is pretty good, although I tend to find it kind of cliquey… There are a lot of local bands and shows, but I do find we don’t get as many bigger acts (unless they play the arena). I find myself driving up to Toronto a lot to see the shows I want to see.

7. What would be some of your main influences today?
I am really into electropop and some slower house music. Anything with a good beat and a soulful vibe! I’m into music that makes you feel good!

8. What could we find interesting in your music collection at home?
Over the past couple years I’ve started collecting records. Not many people expect someone in a metal band to like electropop music, but I could tell you my favourite band is Cut Copy. They’re sort of electropop-nu-disco-indie rock music from Melbourne, Australia. I discovered them while I was living over there.

9. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician on tour?
We roll into a city, load in, eventually do sound check. Then we have some time to ourselves. Going for walks around whatever city we’re in is nice, looking for food, coffee, shops, etc. Sometimes we’ll watch TV or just surf the internet. Then show time comes, we rock it, load out, pack up… sometimes have a few drinks and then on to the next city!

10. Where do you see music going in 100 years from now?
Hmm honestly, I haven’t really thought that far ahead! I’m going to assume I’ll be long gone by then.
