Midnight Preachers Interview – Eoghan and Emer

What’s new in the world of The Midnight Preachers? Spending time
working on projects?

We just released our latest single + video – ‘Pusher Woman’, produced by
John Henry, Mixed & Mastered by Ron ‘Bumblefoot Thal.

Let’s talk about a day in the life of a musician in the studio. How do
you spend your time in the studio?

Typically, one of us will either bring an idea to the table, or else an idea will
come from a jam session. We try to develop it – maybe record a rough track
with some drums etc. to give us some guidance as to where the song should
go.

How important is artwork for singles or albums?

We believe it’s all part of the package… not in a marketing sense, but just to
represent the artistic vision of the musician or band. It’s all part of it…

When writing a song, is there such a thing as investing too much
time? What’s the shortest time you ever took to write one? What was
your strangest inspiration?

Yes – demo-itis! You get used to the rough sound of things and it prevents
you from developing the song the way you should.. The shortest song we
wrote took about half an hour. Regarding strangest inspiration, it was
probably a song we wrote about an aquarium.

Do you follow a formula when you write?

We try not to. It’s nice to keep things free when it’s possible.

How important is merchandising? Could artists survive without?

As important, or maybe more-so, than any other revenue stream. Artists can survive without it, but generally, if a label is involved etc, and the artist is relying on streaming, it’s a vital part of things…

What would be some of your main musical influences today?

Modern artists would include Black Keys, Kurt Vile, John Prine :)

What would we be surprised to find in your music collection at home?

Debussy & Chopin!

How important is it for a musician in this generation to spend time on
social media?

It has so many positive upsides… Connecting with fans, informing people of
gigs etc… With that said, it’s good not to spend too much time online. At the
end of the day, it’s about the music.

With the music industry shutting down presently. How are you dealing
with these issues?

Concentrating on keeping things rolling creatively, and staying safe.

Thank you for taking the time in doing this interview. Wish you all the
best.

Thank you for the opportunity. We greatly appreciate it. Hope yourself and
your families are safe and well.
