Obey The Brave Interview
1. What’s new in the world of Obey The Brave? Well, we have a new album out right now called Salvation. Just started touring in support of this release with The Amity Affliction throughout the USA. And we will on Never Say Die in Europe in November with Terror, Comeback Kid and Stick to your Guns.
2. How was it recording the album Salvation? It was a pretty long and tedious process. Driving 3 hours from Ottawa to the engineer Tony’s house every weekend. But other than that it was a pretty easy going, Tony is a good friend, he also recorded our first album Youngblood. So there is some good history there.
3. Where did the inspirations come from for the material on the album? Inspiration comes from everywhere. Good times and bad times. Or a riff/lyric that comes to you in the middle of the night.
4. During a year how many shows do you do on average and where will you be playing? I have no idea…. Ball park 200ish. We try and play as many Countries and Cities as possible. We want to make sure anyone who likes OTB gets a chance to see us live.
5. Could you describe some of your earliest influences? Mine personally? My earliest memory of music is Billy Joel and Queen. And I am still a huge fan of both. Teenage years. Metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Alice in Chains. This list could be massive.
6. How important is it for a musician in this generation to spend time on social media? It’s extremely important. We spend a few hours a day on social media. The internet has shortened our attention spans. So the more we post the better, more pictures, more music videos.
7. What could we find interesting in your music collection at home? Katy Perry, Beyoncé, drake, Whitesnake, all kinds of stuff.
8. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician on tour? Haha. Wake up, breakfast, drive, load in, workout, couple of drinks, smoke some, play the show, few more drinks, load out, smoke some, sleep. And repeat.
9. Where do you see music in general going in 100 years from now? I find music trends repeat them selves. Maybe NuMetal. Thanks
Greg.
