Angry Phill, Lead vocalist for Industrial Hard Rock band Madlife from Los Angeles. Interview June 20, 2013
1. How was it working on the latest Madlife album 21st Century Megalomaniacs?
This was the best experience I had writing in a long time. I really feel that Madlife has evolved into what I pictured from the inception
2. Where did the influences come from for this album?
All over…there was a lot of things going on in our lives and in the world that made us need to express it through this album. There is a lot of darkness and depth to this album expressed through anger.
3. Will there be any summer tour dates for Madlife?
Yes we are working on them right now…hoping to release the dates soon
4. What do you think of promo videos nowadays with everything going on YouTube?
I think it is awesome that people finally have a place to watch videos since MTV doesn’t do that. And now people have control over what they watch and when.
5. What equipment are you currently endorsing, etc.
In Tune Guitar Picks, Schecter Guitars, JH Audio, Fryette Amps, Line 6, Meinl Cymbals, Seymour Duncan, Regal Tip, WB Gear, FrankinThreads Clothing and SIT Strings.
6. Without Social Media could bands today manage to survive?
Bands could survive….social media has just made it easier to be heard world wide.
7. What were your earliest influences in life?
Cars, different styles of music, and life
8. What would be some of your main influences today?
All you have to do is open your eyes and your ears…influence is everywhere. As far as music today it is hard to find good music that I can relate to…anything on Octane (XM Radio) pretty much makes me feel satisfied
9. What could we find interesting in your music collection at home?
Dean Martin
10. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician on tour?
Wake up…work on the computer returning email and chatting with people on Facebook or Twitter…then I have to grab a huge meal because I can’t eat late in the day if we have a show….from there I usually take over driving the bus from Isaiah and get us to the next gig. Once we get there I go run and work out…shower and warm up for the show…Rock the fucking house…hang out with fans…then start all over again.
11. Where do you see Music in 100 years from now?
I hope it’s not as hard of a life as it is now
