Madelyn Victoria Interview

– What’s new and exciting in the world of Madelyn Victoria?

Getting ready for my first radio tour! I am so excited I finally get to get on the road and share my music with so many more people.

– Making the music video for “He Only Loves me on the Dance Floor” must have a been a great experience. What do you think of the making of music videos?

Yes it was so much fun. I love to act as well, so getting to film a music video is so awesome- I get to sing, act, and even dance! Being a songwriting, the creative edge comes out in anything I do so I have so many ideas of my own for future videos. The making of music videos is an exciting experience and I can’t wait to do my next one.

– How do you build a song up from nothing to become something?

It’s almost an indescribable process.. the things I come up sometimes surprise me, like I’ll say “where did this come from!” Haha…. Most of the time I get ideas out of nowhere, I can be anywhere & I jot it down and it just flows.. That’s definitely a God thing for me, personally. Sometimes I do have to sit, think hard, and make myself come up with something. Either way it happens though the ending result is so rewarding. The best way I could describe what I feel when I write is like a burning fire inside of me that keeps getting bigger and bigger- once it starts it spreads like a wild fire.

– Could you describe a day in your life in music how the work schedules go?

I spend most of my week on the phone booking myself, songwriting, practicing with my band, and planning the next steps of my career… The other days I’m playing at shows or singing at events.. I love it and dedicate my every second to my career. It can get hard sometimes but in the end I know will be very rewarding.

– What would be some of your early influences in music and in life?

My parents introduced me to many types of music growing up. I also listened to a lot of my family members, on my moms side, playing so many awesome songs. They are all so talented. All of the 90s Country like George Strait, Alan Jackson, Patty Loveless.. And classic/southern rock like CCR, The Eagles, and Led Zeppelin.. I also love Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash… All of this music I listened to growing up plays a huge part in my music. I am influenced by different artists for particular parts of my career.. For example Johnny Cash on the songwriting, and George Strait for his hit making. The late Tejano singer Selena also plays a big influence for me overall.

– What’s your take on the sex appeal in the music industry? Is it as important for men and women?

I do believe that it plays a big role in the music industry.. Not necessarily a factor that will make or break an artist though. I believe if you are talented, driven, and determined you can go extremely far… But it does add and help to ones career to reach the masses. Every woman was in love with George Strait, every man in love with Shania Twain… Their “sexy-ness” sure helped with that haha.

– How important is it for a musician in this generation to spend time on social media?

I think that it is a no brainier that social media is vital to survive in the industry today.. Not just being on social media but posting, tweeting, etc. the right way to reach the fans. One of the bands I follow, American Aquarium, is the most hard working and best social media guru’s I have ever seen… I guess you can say they influence me in that area of my career as well.

– What would we be surprised to find in your music collection at home?

Well I like to consider myself a very well rounded “music listener” So what I have in my collection probably wouldn’t be much of a surprise.. maybe to those who don’t know me it might come as a surprise that I jam to some old school hip hop and dance my booty off to it all the time! Haha.

– Which notable bands or artists have you shared the stage with in the past?

There are so many that I’ve had the honor to share the stage with.. But I will name a few that really made an impact on me- My favorite band right now are The Turnpike Troubadours and last year I had a show with them in Mission, TX… There are not many artists nowadays that I can say truly influence me and my music, except for these guys.. and to have shared the stage with them is so awesome. I opened up the show for The Zac Brown Band to a sold out crowd in Hidalgo, TX in 2013 and boy was that something I will never forget. I got a little star struck when Zac waved at me backstage.. my dad had to say “Maddie what are doing?! wave back!” Haha. & just this past year I got to share the stage with The Charlie Daniels Band. I grew up listening to his music and listening to my cousins and uncles singing his songs so being able to also meet Charlie was just unbelievable.. We talked for a bit about his days singing and hanging out with Freddy Fender (who is from my hometown). I am so humbled and so blessed to learn from these big shows and amazing artists.

– Any words for aspiring artists?

If this is what you love, put your all in it. Believe in yourself, never give up, and you will see success.. It takes time… but I never thought I’d be here at this point in my career years ago, and I have faith that years from now I’ll be looking back and saying the same thing.. If I can do it, anyone can.
