Laura Wilde Interview
1. How was it recording your latest album Sold My Soul?
It was a blast! It was over the space of 4 years so I got to experience many different styles of writing and recording processes. I’m lucky to have been able to learn so much throughout the whole experience.
2. Where did the ideas and concepts for this album come from?
They were mostly drawn from personal experiences, something I had witnessed or social commentary. There were also songs where I collaborated with other writers where we brainstormed concepts.
3. Any tours coming up in the near future?
Definitely. I can’t wait to get back out on the road.
4. What do you think of promo videos nowadays with everything going on YouTube?
It’s a great way for artists to directly connect with their fans and release new content. It’s free and easily accessible, which is great. However, this also has the down side of over saturation. Plus people would rather see someone making a fool out of themselves or getting injured than a polished product.
5. What do you think of the music industry today and where it is going?
Being a rocker in this climate, I honestly can’t give the industry a good wrap. Where it’s going? Hopefully to greener pastures.
6. Would you say the health of the Rock scene is becoming stronger?
Not at all. I’ve seen so many amazing new rock bands (that could give Guns n’ Roses a run for their money) end up falling to pieces or changing genre or direction solely because the industry refuses to get behind them and take a chance.
7. What were your earliest influences?
In life, my big brother, Julian. In music, Lenny Kravitz and Nirvana.
8. What could we find interesting in your music collection at home?
I listen to a lot of old seventies funk music. I just can’t get enough of those bass grooves!
9. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician on tour?
3am-6am Sleepy time, 8am Lobby Call, Drive to venue, 4pm Soundcheck, 6pm Dinner, 8pm Showtime, 9pm Meet ‘n’ Greet, 1am Beddy Byes.
10. Without Social Media could bands today manage to survive?
If social media promotion was replaced by major label promotion, bands would definitely be able to survive. However, if that wasn’t the case bands would have to build a solid local fan base and spread the word from there. It would be much harder and more time consuming to be recognized on a global scale.
