Guernica Mancini Interview
1. What are your current projects for 2012 Guernica?
I just got signed to Beatropolis Music and I will start writing and recording my solo Ep the coming monthʼs which Iʼm very excited about. As well as the revamping of my all girl band Inglourious.
2. As being a student from Musicians Institute you must have kept in contact with great musicians?
Yes I have, Iʼve gotten to know many great musicians. One of the producers Iʼm working with at Beatropolis Music went to MI several years ago and my band mate Wave Lewis is also a former student. Many of my of my former classmates are all doing great. I support them as much as I can whether itʼs going to shows or just liking them on FaceBook.
3. What are your current endorsements?
Nothing for the moment, I would love to get endorsed by Sennheiser since thatʼs the brand of microphones I use on stage. Any endorsements are more then welcome.
4. Guernica whatʼs your take on the sex appeal in the music industry?
It is what it is. I think it can be done in a less obvious way and thatʼs how I approach it in my own projects. I understand why itʼs so important. But Iʼm going to continue doing it my way. A more classic/classy sexy rather then in your face. But whatever works for you and makes you feel good and comfortable is what you should do.
5. Whatʼs your vision on the Internet as a tool to promote and get your music out?
Itʼs everything! Especially for a new band or project. Itʼs a great tool and itʼs almost free.;) We have several ideas for my solo project and the band as far as internet marketing, and itʼs definitely our main marketing tool at first.
6. With all the bands coming out today. Do you keep updated with what comes out online at all?
To be completely honest, Itʼs a bit over whelming at times. But I do my best. Twitter is definitely a tool that helps. Itʼs quick and easy, I follow some blogs on there that helps me be updated.
7. How is the current Music Scene in your area of California?
Itʼs very exciting, lots of interesting bands.
8. Could you tell us about your main influences as a musician and vocalist, etc?
One of my biggest inspirations is Prince and I love most 80’s music. I Love No Doubt, I always looked up to Gwen Stefani and been a fan. Anything from soul to rock nʼ roll. Vocally itʼs been tough, I had a really hard time finding female vocalist with my kind of voice. So I’ve been more influenced by male vocalist. I went through a little 80ʼs faze a few years ago, and Sebastian Bach was definitely one of the main guys. Growing up I really liked anything Motown, Not very specific but I just always liked tones off different bands and artist. In my preteens, Just like many other girls of my generation, I loved the spice girls haha. In my teens I had a lil punk faze, it didn’t last very long because I liked to many different musical styles that it made me feel trapped. so it was hard to just stick to punk haha, So dramatic. This question needs a very long answer but at the end of the day I Just Love music!
9. What could we find interesting in your Music collection?
Lotʼs and lotʼs of Prince. =) Van Halen & Red Hot chili peppers discography. Har Mar Superstar =)
10. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician?
Meet up with my producers/co-writers and work on new music. Track the ideas that weʼre working on. I spend a few hours everyday promoting the project and reaching out to bookers etc. Then rehearsal with my band. After go to events/shows around LA for networking and promotion of the project.
11. Do you have any upcoming concerts and tours?
Nothing planed at the moment. Just focusing on writing right now. Aiming to start playing shows by this summer.
12. Are there any products or projects we can see from you in the future?
Lotʼs of exciting things! In the near future thereʼs my solo Ep and then an Ep with Inglourious as well as music videoʼs. Youʼll see tons of thing from me, but right now Iʼm just focusing on making the best Ep I can and then take it from there.
13. Any advice for musicians that are starting in the music industry?
Stay positive and follow your heart,Donʼt give up. If you decided that this is what you love and the only thing you want to do. Just go for it. And remember that nothing is easy, but knowing that your doing what you love and makes you happy is going to give you the energy to push through the tough times. And make your dreams come true.
