Danny Gil (Vocals, Guitar), Boo Rogers (Bass, Vocals) and Casey Bowen (Drums, Vocals) members for Houston Metal band Downfall 2012.
1. How was it recording the latest Downfall 2012 album Everyman for Himself Issue One?
Danny: Really exciting. The sonics were better than ever and we got to work in several amazing studios.
Casey: It was an amazing learning experience from me. I really got to see how it all works.
2. Where did most of the influences come from for making this album?
Danny: To be honest it is based very much on personal life experiences however, it has been transformed into a much more broad yet specific political/science fiction conceptual story with visuals to aid it.
Boo: The musical influence for me just came from everything that I already listen to. I’m never gonna say that I am 100% original. Everyone takes from what they are exposed to.
Casey: Influence for me, came from anything I was listening to at the time, and everything I had picked up since the beginning of my time in Downfall 2012
3. Where did the album title come from Everyman for Himself Issue One?
Danny: When we discovered a common linear theme in the subject matter of our music we decided to tie it all together with a story. I literally wrote a story that explained each song and sequenced it accordingly. In the story I originally left characters unnamed and somewhat vague. When I introduced the story itself to our Illustrator Al Tomic of A. Tomic Productions I described this as very much like Every Story out there. It is basically a journey for our main character to find his way out of turbulent conflict and eventually discover true meaning and a comfortable conclusion. Al suggested we name the Character Mr. Everyman. The band then formulated the name of the series Everyman For Himself.
4. Where will Downfall 2012 be touring this summer?
Danny: Mostly Texas dates. Will be reaching further out in the Fall.
Boo: Earth
5. Would you say that Facebook is a great way to attract attention towards bringing in new crowds to concerts?
Danny: To a certain degree, absolutely. However, you must remember a whole bunch of those people are on that “computer” instead of being at that “concert”.
6. How was it making the video for the song Divinity?
Danny: Awesome yet painful! We were each tied up for long periods of time before shooting to really capture raw emotion. Was a little scary at times. In addition to that Casey was sick as hell with a 103 fever!
Boo: Definitely painful! Body parts you didn’t know could fall asleep will fall asleep while being tied up. Paid off in the end though.
Casey: I had Strep throat, and the flu. I think by the end of it all I was beginning to turn white.
7. What could we find interesting in your music collection at home?
Danny: Danny- Ace of Base lmao
Boo: Lots of Chili Peppers, Rise Against, Strung Out, Of Mice and Men, Memphis May Fire, Killswitch Engage, Skrillex, Tech N9ne, Blue October, Periphery, and definitely some Wham!
Casey: B.B. King, 90’s alternative/hip hop, Bob Marley, Jazz, classical artists, and oldies.
8. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician?
Danny: I make a list (booking, promo, phone calls, etc) first thing in the morning and I try and destroy it before rehearsal in the evening. We meet virtually nightly discuss current projects and the play music for 3 hours or so. Wake and repeat.
Boo: I get phone calls from Danny about booking, promo, shows, etc…. He tells me what part of that I should be involved in and I procrastinate so I can continue writing more music!
Casey: I wake up before the sun. Then, I get texts/calls from Danny about what jobs I have to complete. Next, Danny reminds me before it’s too late to finish those tasks. Finally, I jam with Boo.
9. Where do you see the future of music going?
Danny: I think we will see a new incarnation of rebellious angry stuff in the main stream. It’s about time for that!
Boo: I think music is an infinite cycle. The era of happy party music will end with the beginning intense, more dark stylings of music….and vice versa.
10. Any words for future musicians from Downfall 2012?
Danny: GOOOOOD LUCK lol
Boo: Don’t quit your day job…..no really, don’t. Did that once before I actually should have…no fun!
Casey: Want it so bad nothing can stop you. Annnd, make sure you have an understanding boss.
