Chelsea Crites Interview
1. What’s new and exciting in the land of Chelsea Crites?
LOT’S I have been so busy these past few months, and I just got some great news in that I will be opening up for
William Shatner before his legendary comedy show at Hamilton Place in Hamilton Ontario, Canada, i also got great news that I will be opening up for Jason McCoy @ The Class Act Dinner Theatre in Whitby, ON, Jason McCoy has gone on to win multiple CCMA awards, including male vocalist of the year and songwriter of the year with his solo career. He was also CMA Global Artist of the Year and has earned a gold record. Along with releasing my NEW music video in the early new year, and my new album!
2. As a Canadian Country Artist has the music scene been getting better all the time?
I really think as a Canadian country Artist the music scene has definitely been getting better in all genres, but definitely in country, it has just been such a new epidemic out there it seems there’s a new country bar always opening, and TONS of new great country artists are emerging, and it has been especially popular I’ve noticed down here in Canada with the teenage crowds also, along with the regular die hard country fans.
3. What are some of your current endorsements?
Harveys, Herberts boots
4. Being active on social media has given you a big boost would you say?
I definitely think it has, now days I really think that is the way to go it’s an easy way to reach people of all ages, and it makes promotion a lot easier and much more effective I’ve noticed especially with posts, and virtual posters and ads.
5. On training your voice how long did it take you to perfect your instrument?
At first when I started singing when I was just a little girl I just sang, I never really thought of it as my instrument until I got older and realized this was my dream and career I wanted for the rest of my life . Although I am young I definitely have been taking into consideration of treating my voice with the most care I possibly can. Just recently I have gotten a great vocal coach Daryl Gray who is from the band Helix Canadian hard rock/heavy metal band that formed in 1974 and are best known for their single “Rock You” from 1984 and MANY others, and he has taught me such wonderful techniques to keep my voice in the best shape possible.
6. Without merchandising could artists survive?
That’s hard to say I find it all depends, some artists make their living by just performing other artist who are upcoming, and or famous make their profit from all aspects of their music such as merchandising, performances, special appearances, etc. it may be hard at first but I think the artists who are in it to make it their lives always figure out a way to survive with their music.
7. What would be some of your main influences nowadays?
I definitely would have to say my main influences would be Carrie Underwood , and Miranda Lambert, they are the closest mix as to what I want my music to portray and be, and every now and then I throw a little bit of Taylor Swift in there, all 3 of these singers just sum up to what I want my music to be, I love my music having the sweetness of Carrie Underwood, but also the Sass of Miranda Lambert , and what brings the song all together, I just love having the inspirational , and relatable lyrics like Taylor Swift does, so people can relate to my music and say “hey I feel that way too”
8. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life?
Wow it varies day from day with music my life is always busy, but I get to meet such great people along the way, usually my day consists of, Song writing, Radio interviews, Online interviews, getting ready for performing at a scheduled show, recording my music, promoting my events, learning new songs. when I’m not doing that, I’m always preparing throughout the day for something musically related such as, picking out my outfits, checking out times of an event etc. and when I’m not doing that I sometimes get a day or two off, and lets me honest, I LOVE to rest ahah.
9. Any new album in the future?
Yes definitely my new album will be coming out in the New Year!
10. Any advice for musicians that are starting in the music industry?
My advice for anyone that is starting in the industry, is NEVER give up, always keep pushing and trying to achieve your dreams, don’t listen to what people who want to bring you down have to say, it’s your life and be who you are, and be confident, and if you have all of that you will never fail, everyone falls now and then but all you have to do is dust it off get right back up and keep on pushing!
