Charming Liars Interview

1. What’s new in the world of Charming Liars?
We just shot our music video for “The Desperation” yesterday.. My feet are killing me!

2. How was it recording the latest EP We Won’t Give Up?
It was an incredible experience. Working both with Bob Rock and John Fields allowed us to learn so much so quickly. We were a little intimidated going into the process but definitely came up out the other end with a wealth of new knowledge and some pretty funny anecdotes.

3. Releasing promo videos must be a lot of work? What’s your view on making videos?
We love making videos. We like to treat the visuals we release with the same amount of importance and focus as we do the songs themselves. The whole process from writing treatments to the filming and post-production is something we all love.

4. During an average year how many shows do you do now?
I don’t know the exact number but I can take tell you we were away on the road for a long time last year!

5. Could you describe some of your earliest influences?
Michael Jackson, Silverchair, Nirvana, The Cranberries, Garbage

6. How important is it for a musician in this generation to spend time on social media?
Its vital. I don’t know of a single case of a new artist breaking through without the use of social media. We are active and engaged on a bunch of different platforms and are always looking for new digital mediums to communicate with our fans through when we can’t face to face.

7. How many hours a day do you spend on social media and the internet?
Too much. It’s a problem!

8. What could we find interesting in your music collection at home?
Right now I’m loving Tove Lo, MØ, Lower than Atlantis, Kate Boy

9. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician on tour?
Wake up > Starbucks (if possible) > Wake up properly > Drive to venue whilst catching up on latest season of House of Cards > Get to venue > Load in > Set up > Sound-check > Sit around > Warm up > Play > Hangout at Merch table with fans > Pack up > Drive to next town and repeat

10. Where do you see music in general going in 100 years from now?
The industry as we know it will be a completely different landscape. Record labels as we know them now will become obsolete with creative type agencies focused on developing new talent taking their place. Spotify like streaming services will work with performing rights organizations and evolve into platforms that pay the artist in real time (i.e. money straight into their account the second their song is played anywhere) and Ska music and EDM will fuse to form a new genre.
