Angelica Rylin Interview

What’s new in the life of Angelica Rylin? I’m doing lots of PR for my first solo album and I’m also writing new material for a third The Murder of My Sweet album. Between that I try to work out, go to the movies and read books. Anything to fill my days with as much fun and inspiring things as possible.

2. How was it recording the album Thrive and who is all on the album? It was great! I got the chance to step out of my comfort zone (i.e TMOMS and the slightly gothic genre of our songs) and just have fun and get to know another side of me. The musicians and songwriters I worked with are amazing, I mean come on; Harry Hess (Harem Scarem), Magnus Karlsson (Primal Fear), Jesper Stromblad (ex. In Flames, The Resistance), Matt Guillory (James LaBrie) to name a few… Could a girl wish for more?

3. Any tour dates in support of the Thrive album? Not to begin with but I really hope to confirm a couple of festivals for next summer.

4. What are you currently endorsing, etc. Well I’m working on a third TMOMS album for next year or so, a quite big project, and hopefully I’ll get to do a second solo album if all turns out well :)

5. What would be some of the craziest stuff you’ve seen on the road? I was back stage with UDO when we played Wacken Open Air in 2011. I won’t say much but these guys know how to throw a party!

6. What were your earliest influences in life? I grew up listening to Bonnie Tyler, Pat Benatar, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, Whitney Houston and Madonna. I guess that’s what you get for being born in the early 80’s. I have always had a broad interest in music and found inspiration in various styles and genres.

7. What would be some of your main influences today? I watch allot of movies and get inspired by the score music. When it comes to bands I still carry with me some Queen and Genesis but also modern music like Thirty seconds to Mars, Car park North and Alterbrige.

8. What could we find interesting in your music collection at home? A bunch of Live/documentary DvD’s of various bands. I love to watch that!

9. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician? I usually wake up around 9 or 10 am, have some green tea and a shower. Then I’m off to the studio to work with my band mate and producer Daniel Flores. We start by listening through the tracks we work on yesterday and then carry on with the next one. If we are in writing mode Daniel sits down by the piano and I by my laptop to scrap up some lyrics. If we are in recording mode I get in the singing booth and start warming up my voice. We usually work for six or eight hours, some times more, some times less. It’s all about letting the creativity flow, you can’t push it or force it to be there. It’s got a life of it’s own.

10. Where do you see music going in 100 years from now? Wow, who knows? 100 years is a long time but I guess we’ll have invented new instruments and new platforms for experiencing music both live and digital. Music will probably not sound like it sounds today, I mean rock in the 50’s was Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis. I do hope that we will have restored the balance between illegal downloading and the compensation for the artists.
