Simple Plan in Halifax – An awesome triple play

Simple Plan in Halifax, NS February 26th, 2012

Simple Plan Halifax

Pierre Bouvier

An audience of nearly 5,000 was treated to an energy-filled show at the Halifax Metro Centre Sunday night. Simple Plan was the cherry on top of the cake and ice cream served up by opening acts All Time Low and Marianas Trench. Performers from all three bands could give the Energizer Bunny a run for his money.

All Time Low, the only American act of the evening, set the bar quite high for those to follow. Those who weren’t already able to sing along, most  likely became fans on the spot. Mission accomplished guys.

B.C.-based Marianas Trench’s Josh-in-box opening thrilled enthusiasts of the band’s latest album, Ever After. Tracks from the previous Masterpiece Theatre were woven in, leaving no Trenchy disappointed.

When Simple Plan took the stage at 9PM sharp, the crowd easily summoned up a third wind to dance and sing along to hits from the Quebec-based band’s 13 years of work. Many singles from the Get Your Heart On album highlighted an eclectic and somewhat surprising mix that covered anything from Maroon 5 to Black-Eyed Peas.

All in all, ticket holders got triple their money’s worth in one night.

Deep Purple Rocks Halifax Review

Deep Purple Rocks Halifax

February 5, 2012 Deep Purple: The Songs That Built Rock Tour

Deep Purple took the stage at 8:30 pm Sunday evening at the Halifax Metro Centre with roughly 4500 in attendance. They opened with the ultimate opener “Highway Star”. The sound was very exciting, certainly with Don Airey’s keyboards solos. Don Airey is a former Ozzy Osbourne keyboardist which played on the album “Blizzard Of Ozz” along with the legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads and has been playing with Deep Purple since 2002. Ian Gillan’s voice was in great form and did not have any difficulties in reaching the high notes. Ian Paice and Roger Glover played great as always. Steve Morse the bands guitarist whose been playing with Deep Purple since 1994 carried out a great guitar tone through his guitar amps as well as matching the solos pretty precisely. Deep Purple has been going on strong for 44 years now and it seems there is no stopping them when they get on the stage. The opening act wasHalifax’s band Gloryhound.

Deep Purple: The Songs That Built Rock Tour Started the North American leg of the tour in St. John’s, Newfoundlandand Labradorand will go until the 26th of February in Vancouver, British Colombia. In October they will continue to Russia.

For your knowledge Deep Purple was once listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as being the loudest pop group. Deep Purple has sold over 100 Million albums Worldwide.

Prince in Halifax second Review from a fan’s view

I thought I was a Prince fan. Turns out I was not really one. Yet.

With only a one month notice of his royal visit to Halifax, Nova Scotia, the scramble for tickets came even before we could absorb the fact that he would be in town. Luckily for me, my little sister, always looking up to me in our youth, took it upon herself to get us good seats. She was 11 when the Purple Rain fell upon us. I was 16, listened to Prince, ergo, she listened to Prince. So sisterly road trip it is!
Tradgedy struck as we walked from the hotel to the Metro Centre. The heel from my left boot broke. Determined to get there early, there was no going back for a change of shoes. Happily hobbling along, we arrived before most and took our seats an hour before the concert was to begin. The sacrificial shoe walk was well worth it. We were treated to our very own intimate concert (last minute practice) with His Purple Highness.
Concert time. As soon as the first notes filled the air, the crowd was on its feet. I, in my socks, and the other thousands in their respective shoes, danced and sang to the songs whose lyrics stayed with us for almost 30 years.

I am not an avid or frequent concert-goer, but I am quite certain this is and will be the best one I will ever attend. It felt as though he was there to sing and dance with us, rather than for us, and with his humour and easy smile he created a beautiful, happy, carefree, musically-blessed atmosphere that will last far beyond the last encore.

I was in reality expecting a much darker, mysterious, private singer. To the audience’s delight, we were shown a fun-loving, confident, talented entertainer. In those 2 hours, I became a true fan of a true Prince.

Trudging back to the hotel through Halifax streets in soggy stockinged feet, I was still in awe of the experience, on a natural high of music, and loving every minute.

Wednesday night in Halifax it rained purple in the form of confetti in the Metro Centre. Halifax got to see a great show and performance of more than 2 hours with Prince. The fans surely got what they came for with the classics, etc. The stage was interesting as well considering you don’t get to see a lot of stages in Halifax with the Prince symbol in the center of the venue. The VIP section surrounding the stage was in cabaret style which was very nice for the fans sitting in those seats to witness Prince closer.

Disturbed, Korn & StillWell in Halifax, NS Review 2011

DISTURBED, KORN & STILLWELL in Halifax

Halifax, Nova Scotia experienced the “Music as a Weapon tour” April 5th, 2011, with KORN & DISTURBED double headlining the tour. The audience got their money’s worth with this bill. The evening started off with STILLWELL featuring KORN’s bassist Fieldy on guitar. KORN took the stage afterwards, and made sure the crowd got what they came to see. Ray Luzier’s drumming for KORN was flashed with so much energy, I am sure Halifax now has new drummers in the making after witnessing Ray’s power playing. It was great to feel the rumble of KORN doing a minute of the METALLICA song “One” to everyone’s satisfaction. Disturbed took the stage with the same amount of focus and energy as KORN leaving everyone satisfied.
