Lydia Ansel Interview

1. What’s new in the life of Lydia Ansel and what current projects are you working on?
I am currently performing with Las Vegas Headliner Zowie Bowie, with Rod Stewart at the Caesar’s Colliseum, and with Bella Electric Strings.

2. Without Social Media could bands today manage to survive?
I personally think Social Media is now an essential part of marketing a band. It’s such a great way to connect with friends and fans!

3. You must put plenty of hours on your violin. How many during a week would you say?
When I was in college I would practice 4 hours a day, and then perform afterwards… now I don’t spend nearly as many hours, but am happily performing regularly. Because I perform in different shows, my schedule varies weekly which keeps things really interesting. One thing I always look forward to are my weekends performing to locals and tourists with Zowie Bowie.

4. How are some of the most notable people you have shared the stage with?
I have been lucky enough to share the stage with Rod Stewart, Enrique Iglesias, Jordin Sparks, John Legend, Regina Carter, Joshua Bell, Randy Travis and Clint Holmes, and Three Dog Night.

5. What would be some of your earliest influences?
I was classically trained so, my earliest influences included Back, Tchaikovsky, and Brahms :)

6. What’s your vision of the internet for musicians in the future?
As technology continues to improve, all people rely more and more on it. The same goes for musicians…I find personally I do most of my bookings via the internet, email, and text.

7. What could we find interesting in your music collection at home?
My music collection is as ADD as I am, lol. I listen to everything from Saint-Saens, to Sinatra, to Santana to…everything!  :)

8. Could you describe what goes on in a day in your life as a musician?
A typical day for me…I go to sleep close to sunrise, wake up in the afternoon and depending if I have a gig in the early evening- try to catch up on all my emails and social media. Then, I often work on new music, go to shows, or perform in the very late evening only to start it all again.

9. Any words for future musicians?
My advice to future musicians is to always keep the joy of performing. When you love what you do, it’s never “work” and each moment is a gift.
